Can I run as a Republican?

To appear on the ballot using the Republican Party designation in Tennessee, candidates must meet the qualifications set forth in the Tennessee Republican Party bylaws. Candidates must be recognized as bona fide Republicans. This includes active participation in the Republican Party, voter registration in the county where the candidate seeks office, and participation in at least three of the last four statewide Republican primaries.

Candidates who do not meet these requirements may apply for a waiver. Waiver requests are reviewed and decided by the State Executive Committee members representing the district. In Anderson County, those members are Terry Frank and Tim Hutchison.

Some offices require a filing fee paid to the Tennessee Republican Party. These requirements generally apply to statewide, legislative, and certain local offices. A link to filing fee information is provided below.

After submitting a qualifying petition and any required fees, the Tennessee Republican Party reviews the candidate’s eligibility and notifies election officials of candidates approved to run as Republicans in Anderson County.
