PETITION

PROTECT CHILDREN FROM PORNOGRAPHY AND RADICAL GENDER IDEOLOGY IN LIBRARIES:

UPHOLD COMMUNITY STANDARDS AND THE LAW

To: Anderson County Board of Commissioners, Oak Ridge City Council, School Boards, associated Library systems, and State of Tennessee

We believe that some of our libraries in Anderson County, Tennessee (Briceville, Clinton, Norris, and Rocky Top, as well as Oak Ridge) are not currently operating in compliance with state law as outlined in T. C. A. § 39-17-901 and T. C. A. § 39-17-911. They are exhibiting and making available to minors vulgar, sexually explicit, and pornographic material that focuses on pleasure, hyper-sexualization, narcissism, anger, rebellion, and nihilism instead of qualities that develop love, respect, discipline, and maturity. This material contains dangerous misinformation which is highly ideological and predatory in nature and harmful to our children, to our families, and to our community.

These concerns were brought to the attention of officials on the Anderson County Commission on February 21, 2023, and the Anderson County Library Board on March 9, 2023, and made public in newspapers. Furthermore, on June 19, 2023 44% of the commissioners remained outside the meeting room during an important presentation about the dangers of sexualizing children and of gender ideology that was clearly placed on the agenda. Communities are charged with protecting children and families, yet this problem has not been corrected.

Therefore, we the undersigned do petition and require that the Anderson County Board of Commissioners, Oak Ridge City Council, School Boards, associated library systems, and State of Tennessee adhere to the laws of our state; respect the prevailing standards of our community; withdraw from association with radical groups such as the American Library Association, and change, approve and enforce library policies that prohibit the availability, promotion, computer links and display in the library systems of the above-mentioned material.
